Photo taken byย contributor Jaeda DeWalt, aย conceptual self-portrait artist in her forties from Seattle, Washington.ย Herย battles with mental illness hearkenย back to herย earliest memories, at age four, when she became obsessed with the number four and performedย exhaustive rituals in patterns of four. Duringย her teen years, she began noticingย extreme mood swings, manic one moment and depressed the next, and inย herย late 20โฒs she finally sought treatment and was diagnosed with Bipolar, OCD, Anxiety, ADHD, and PTSD from the trauma of being sexually abused as a child into herย young adult years. Herย life was filled with self-destructive coping methods until she went full force into creating, in herย mid-twenties. The process of creating and putting herself in front of the camera felt cathartic, liberating and healing. The photographic medium opened up a new world to herย and ignited a kind of passion within that she didnโt even know she was capable of experiencing.ย She has been on an ever-evolving, healing journey, ever since.
About this photo:ย โEsoteric Enchantress – Self Portrait.ย Having an esoteric nature is as exciting and enticingโas it is isolating. I can feel people being drawn in and simultaneously pushed away, from this strange creature Iย recognize as beingโmy truest self.โ
