Who we are & why we are

Welcome to the gallery site of Broken Light Collective. We are artists of all levels and abilities who are affected by mental illness. We create and we share our work for the therapeutic benefits to us, as well as others who may be struggling and feeling scared and alone. Together we can move from disconnected to collective.

Photo taken by Dee, who is currently in the hospital undergoing E.C.T. aka “shock therapy” for the treatment of depression and bipolar, hence the fashionable paper bracelet.

About this photo: I am not supposed to take photos here in the hospital, but managed to sneak this one in. The mask partly speaks for itself. I feel trapped behind it, struggling to come out from beneath it’s heavy weight.

The mask has since been covered with tissue paper, words, and feathers as part of art therapy group. It now says “peace of mind 24/7” over “depression.” An attempt to look ahead in a brighter and more positive way. Here’s hoping…

This is wonderful. You were brave to go ahead and send this. I like the mask both ways!
