Who we are & why we are

Welcome to the gallery site of Broken Light Collective. We are artists of all levels and abilities who are affected by mental illness. We create and we share our work for the therapeutic benefits to us, as well as others who may be struggling and feeling scared and alone. Together we can move from disconnected to collective.

Photo taken by contributor Kyle Anderson, a man from Saskatchewan, Canada. Kyle is a health care professional in his forties who has battled depression and addiction for most of his life. He escapes by letting the camera become his mind’s eye, and hopes that each photo he takes allows others to see the world as he sees it, even for a split second.

About this photo: “I often wonder what the future has in store for my son. He has many anxious traits as I had as a child. Deep down I know that all I can do is show him the beauty of this world and set forth the river of his imagination. Sometimes I blame myself though…

Kyle, I get what you’re saying…I see the many of my anxious traits in my nine-year-old son. I’m also a recovering alcoholic, and I’m doing my best to show my son that recovery is much better than drinking. He’s young, but maybe he’s paying attention. Great picture, too. Love the choice of black and white.
