Trapped Inside Our Minds

Photo taken by contributor Hannah, a 20-year-old woman from Vermont. After struggling with depression for several years, Hannah attempted to end her life at the age of seventeen. She is now using her story to encourage others to speak up about mental health.

About this photo: “I took this shot from inside of a jail cell in South Africa. I don’t need to explain the symbolism here, we all know what it’s like to be trapped inside our minds.

Hannah, this is the perfect photographic metaphor for what you’ve experience. I pray that door is opening and stays open for you.

I have been there..the claustrophobia is evident and so is seeing the possibilities on the outside, the light, but figuring how to get out. Following God is half the battle. Good therapy and sometimes medication is more of it, and finally comes living it.
