Photo taken by contributor Thirdeyemom, a woman who experienced severe postpartum depression after the birth of her first child. It was a terrifying, isolating experience for her, which included terrible insomnia and hallucinations. Thankfully with the help of doctors and family, one week after her son’s first birthday she was able to board a plane to South Africa, resuming her love of travel. Through traveling, writing, and photography she began to see the beauty of the world again.
About this photo: “I saw this woman at the Plaza des Armas in Old Havana. I wondered what was on her mind. Who is she? I loved how her face matched the tree nearby, both weathered and aged by time yet graceful and beautiful.”

I visited Cuba nearly a decade ago, and had some great adventures (I drove 600 miles across the country, and we flew on an old Russian Antonov 40+ years old to return to Havana)… Your photos are reminding me. I keep thinking I must return one day and see how the Island is changing….
