Hypomania

Photo taken by contributor Danielle who has been diagnosed with bipolar II. She suffers on and off with severe depression, anxiety, agitation, and panic attacks. She recently has been experiencing a mixed episode with hypomania. This has given her positives, such as floods of ideas, as well as negatives, such as anger, and poor impulse control and sleep. She is using doctors, medication, and photography to cope.

About this photo: “Glass separates me from the world. Everything is a blur. Thoughts. Feelings. Emotions. Experiences. Is the world flying by? Or am I flying past the world? Do I plead for this to stop… or beg for it to go faster and faster? None of it matters really. Control is just an illusion, so I might as well enjoy the ride.

This is a fascinating image. It almost made me carsick looking at it! But in the background there is a tree which isn’t blurry, that is like an image of clarity behind all the blur and confusion in the foreground. Which is like our emotions and thoughts spinning, spinning, whirling, but in our core is an ocean of calm.
