Into the Light

Photo taken by first-time contributor Johanna from Finland, who has both family members and friends who have suffered from mental health issues, including severe depression and bipolar disorder. She also works as a guidance counselor with many students who struggle with different kinds of problems, and it is her job to try and help them in all possible ways, in their studies and life, and to get them on the track towards better health. Johanna primarily photographs nature and her everyday surroundings, but she also loves rock photography.

About this photo: “This specific image came to mind for Broken Light Collective. It’s a black & white street shot that has a very special story for me, as a friend who suffers from depression wanted to buy a print of it for herself. She said it would be perfect for her, reminding her to try to get out of the darkness and into the light.

    1. They struck me, too, as though she were walking through a valley of devouring teeth, down, down, down, into the light. Rather amazing.
