My Therapy Dog

Photo taken by contributor Danielle who has suffered from severe depression on and off for many years. She loves taking photos, and one of her favorite things to photograph is animals, even though it can be quite challenging.

About this photo: “Sometimes when I am going through a depressive episode, it is hard to get up and out of the house, or even to smile. This little one not only can get me out the door (which is important because my doctor said I am really lacking in vitamin D), but she also calms me and can even get me laughing. She may not be perfect – she bites at the blinds and windows any time she sees a mail-person or a cat outside, and has been known to nip at people once in a while – but she helps me mind, body, and spirit, and I am very grateful for every lick.

  1. Very strong and expressive, and I like the bright background which makes the portrait all the more appealing. Almost makes me want to go and try photographing animals too. Wonderful!

  2. I also have a service animal, and he really helps me get up in the morning, continue on during the day, and he gets me to see the happy parts of the day.
