Who we are & why we are

Welcome to the gallery site of Broken Light Collective. We are artists of all levels and abilities who are affected by mental illness. We create and we share our work for the therapeutic benefits to us, as well as others who may be struggling and feeling scared and alone. Together we can move from disconnected to collective.

Photo taken by Lisa, a licensed mental health counselor. She believes that we all need a creative outlet to help clear our heads of the occasional “gunk.” For her, it’s photography, and diving. She has a personal blog that contains inspirational and travel photos, as well as a professional blog. Though she is very proud of being licensed counselors for both Alabama and Florida, as well as a Registered Play Therapist and Nationally Certified Counselor, she is most proud of the fact that at the age of 47 she learned to scuba dive and has been an avid diver ever since.

About this photo: “This was shot from a series of photos I took one evening while I was again at the beach, unwinding from a stressful day.  It’s just another way for me to re center myself and know that no matter how bad a day might be, there is always peace if you just look for it.”

Photography is such a splendid way to unwind after a stressful day, or why not during a busy day? Beautiful photo, thanks for sharing it with us.

“we all need a creative outlet…”

And very often that is all we need. It is quite remarkable how believing in a little creativity within yourself can chase the bad things away.

The above photo is breathtaking! The sun looks like it will melt into the clouds! You are very right to point out that there IS beauty to be found in each day. You mentioned that “this was shot from a series of photos”. Did you use scan and stitch? Would you mind briefly explaining the procedure you used? I am not very familiar with the computer software end of digital photography yet. Thank you.

What an exquisite photo. I was internet wandering and came upon it in the labyrinth. What a restful stop!
