Photo taken by Katie, a student photographer in Ireland. Katie has suffered from Social Anxiety since she was 15-years-old. 3 years ago she was diagnosed officially, and she has been on medication ever since. Katie is using photography as a means to raise awareness and help understand Social Anxiety herself. It has driven her to create a blog dedicated to sharing her thoughts and experiences with Social Anxiety, with the hopes that it will help those who also suffer because of this mental illness.

About this photo: “This image is called Displacement, it represents the two sides anxiety sufferers have. One is calm and collected in the face of others, the second is angry, frustrated and tired with the daily struggles of SA.”

  1. The moment I saw this I thought, “that’s exactly what it’s like.” Seeing this is one of the most empowering experiences I’ve ever had.

    Thank youl

  2. I echo Meredith’s comment! This is photographic genius. I can relate to the emotional component, also. Having high, persistent anxiety with Asperger’s, I can look “normal” on the outside and feel like I want to erupt on the inside. I am treated by medication, supportive family/treatment and ear protection for loud environments. Keep sharing!
