Who we are & why we are

Welcome to the gallery site of Broken Light Collective. We are artists of all levels and abilities who are affected by mental illness. We create and we share our work for the therapeutic benefits to us, as well as others who may be struggling and feeling scared and alone. Together we can move from disconnected to collective.

Photo by Stefanie, whose depression has manifested itself in a number of different ways over the years, the most painful of which being resentment and anger.

About this photo: Anger can cannibalize the soul- consumed from the inside out. At a certain point, my anger and anxiety would catch fire, and once again, from the inside out, it could consume me. It touched not only my mind, body, and soul, but those who were around me. Caustic. Toxic. I fought fury with fury, and the battle was often lost along with any number of casualties from those who were in close proximity. Over time, however, I have learned to cope and focus that energy in more productive and creative ways. I now don my war paint and fight for a cause.
