Unfocused/Our First Photo Challenge: self-portrait!

May is Mental Health Month! Let’s stand up and face mental illness head-on together. For our first photo challenge, please send us a self-portrait. Your face does not need to be in the shot, but some part of you does. Feel free to be as simple or creative as you would like.

E-mail entries to Please include your name as you want it to appear, web site, and a blurb about you and your connection to mental health issues, and a blurb about your photo. Entries to appear on Broken Light and Facebook.

About this photo: This photograph shows how one person can have many sides of self to manage when dealing with mental illness. She is one, yet she is many. It also can feel like the world is moving so fast around you, and yet it’s hard to take even a single step.

Like derealization, everything appears as in a dream, so unreal! The self too is there as a blur, depersonalized.
