Who we are & why we are

Welcome to the gallery site of Broken Light Collective. We are artists of all levels and abilities who are affected by mental illness. We create and we share our work for the therapeutic benefits to us, as well as others who may be struggling and feeling scared and alone. Together we can move from disconnected to collective.

There is something different about looking at the world from above. A distance that is all too familiar when you live with severe depression, anxiety, or bipolar; or all of the above. Everyone else is part of a nameless, faceless world that is moving on beneath you, without even a glance.

I shot almost exclusively from above for at least 6 months last year when I was in a very dark place. I have probably thousands of photos of faceless people from above.

About this photo: This photo of my daughter captures her growth and development, but also shows hints of my husband and myself hovering just out of sight. It captures an aspect of adolescence, as well as parenthood. Staying close, but letting go.

This is an amazing photograph. I love the perspective. I must say that your analysis is quite insightful as well.
