Who we are & why we are

Welcome to the gallery site of Broken Light Collective. We are artists of all levels and abilities who are affected by mental illness. We create and we share our work for the therapeutic benefits to us, as well as others who may be struggling and feeling scared and alone. Together we can move from disconnected to collective.

Photo taken by contributor Annie, a woman who lives with Anxiety, PTSD, depression, and dissociation. She copes by listening to music, art, photography, and writing stories and poems. Annie lives with Rumi, her feline companion.

About this photo: “Get me out of here, now!
I can’t stand going to the grocery store.
I take a list.  I get in. I walk as fast as I can. I get what I need and get out as fast as I possibly can.
But the people, the lights, the movement, the noise, it all closes in on me and a panic attack never fails to hit.

Just get me out…let me breathe—please.

I leave the store—normal breathing restored.

Oh I know that feeling Annie, I know it well.

An incredibly bold interpretation of a horrific experience. That takes a lot of courage, the real kind.
