Who we are & why we are

Welcome to the gallery site of Broken Light Collective. We are artists of all levels and abilities who are affected by mental illness. We create and we share our work for the therapeutic benefits to us, as well as others who may be struggling and feeling scared and alone. Together we can move from disconnected to collective.

Please welcome first-time contributor Glenn Grancio, a 40-year-old visual artist living in New York, NY. Glenn has been diagnosed with an eating disorder. He has gone through many phases and difficulties. Glenn has shown sketches and paintings at the Museum of Modern Art’s Edward John Noble Education Center yearly since 2005. Glenn also does self portrait photography by using a tripod and timer. When seeing his photographs, he is able to see himself face to face as he is. He also has his mind off food and on using the camera and posing in various places. As a photographer, he captures a moment in time.

About this photo: “Here I play Merlin in front of a magical house I grew up in. It was taken around Halloween 2015. I live out a fantasy of being a true wizard with special powers.”
