Who we are & why we are

Welcome to the gallery site of Broken Light Collective. We are artists of all levels and abilities who are affected by mental illness. We create and we share our work for the therapeutic benefits to us, as well as others who may be struggling and feeling scared and alone. Together we can move from disconnected to collective.

Photo taken by contributor Brandon Halley, a 21-year-old photography student who uses surreal photography as a form of art therapy. Brandon suffers from anxiety and depression, and struggles with the idea of not being in control of the world around him. Within his works, Brandon finds comfort in the idea that he has complete control over the worlds that he creates, and this helps to level out his emotions.

About this photo: “This photo is titled Rebirth, and was conceived after a recent dilemma I have been struggling with. It slowly developed over the past two weeks. The fox is symbolic of my new self, and my new discoveries and realizations.

Phenomenal work, Brandon! A kiss of enchantment, almost dream-like. I relate to your struggles with anxiety and depression and am glad you have found a way level out your emotions. Rebirth is difficult but oh-so-rewarding. Thank you for sharing your journey :).
