Who we are & why we are

Welcome to the gallery site of Broken Light Collective. We are artists of all levels and abilities who are affected by mental illness. We create and we share our work for the therapeutic benefits to us, as well as others who may be struggling and feeling scared and alone. Together we can move from disconnected to collective.

Photo taken by first-time contributor Sam, a soon-to-be teenager from the very South of Texas. Sam lives with severe Attention Deficit Disorder. The challenges he experiences due to lack of focus or hyper focus make it especially hard for him at school. He wishes that other kids would take ADD more seriously, and not just use it as an excuse to get out of homework. Taking pictures and making videos and video games has become a way for Sam to channel what is going on inside.

About this photo: “Beauty in the gloom. Most people will take rainstorms as something gloomy or dreadful but you can get something beautiful out of it if you just look at it from the right angle.

We see the world differently, each one of us, and this is a beautiful representation of how you see it sometimes. Thank you for sharing.
