Who we are & why we are

Welcome to the gallery site of Broken Light Collective. We are artists of all levels and abilities who are affected by mental illness. We create and we share our work for the therapeutic benefits to us, as well as others who may be struggling and feeling scared and alone. Together we can move from disconnected to collective.

Photo taken by contributor Kyle Anderson, a man from Saskatchewan, Canada. Kyle is a 41-year-old health care professional who has battled depression and addiction for most of his life. He escapes by letting the camera become his mind’s eye, and hopes that each photo he takes allows others to see the world as he sees it, even for a split second.

About this photo: “This reminds me that our road ahead is always unknown but can be wondrous if we look ahead with our hearts.”

This photo instantly brought me back to my childhood. My backyard looked nothing like this, but there were woods, and I loved playing in them. When I read the phrase “damp leaves, I was transported back to those woods.
