Photo taken by contributor Thomas Slatin, a man in his thirties who is an adult survivor of childhood sexual abuse. He was first diagnosed with major depressive disorder and PTSD at the age of 18. On the advice of his fiancée, he picked up a camera and started taking pictures. He has always been a talented and gifted writer, and has since dedicated his life to writing and photography as a means of documenting the human experience. Thomas is currently fascinated with photographing abandonment, especially buildings.
About this photo: “This photo was taken at an abandoned resort hotel called The Pines Hotel. This was the culmination of months of planning and about an hour of mental preparation before I was able to build up enough courage to go inside this
place, all alone.”

There is nothing more haunting than the abandoned public places. I love urbex/infiltration photos because they demand their authors to enter places where no one else would go.
