Who we are & why we are

Welcome to the gallery site of Broken Light Collective. We are artists of all levels and abilities who are affected by mental illness. We create and we share our work for the therapeutic benefits to us, as well as others who may be struggling and feeling scared and alone. Together we can move from disconnected to collective.

Photo by contributor SJ, a 28-year-old woman who has been diagnosed with OCD, PTSD and psychosis. Photography has given her focus, purpose, and an outlet to express the feelings that she finds difficult to process and explain.

About this photo: “I am interested in exploring abandoned and forgotten places.

Extremely evocative, sets a wonderful sense of mood and emotion, and allows me to sense a bit of your experience. Well done!

My favorite theme as well. And this is gorgeous. Love the monochrome. Doesn’t this remind you of the haunting themes of Andrew Wyeth?

I have been to this place…in my mind. Wonderfully expressive photograph of that which was once useful has been left behind.

A beautiful image. A haunting, striking vision we have all had but are sometimes unable to see for ourselves. All of the shades of grey we find in life, somewhere between the black and the white we focus upon.

Fantastic photo. The details are done beautifully – the hint of trees outside the window, the subtle color, above all, the light. Those are some very tough diagnoses. I hope you find a little stillness in each day for yourself.

I admire many photos, but there are darn few I wish I could claim as my own. This is one I would like to say was mine. Wow!
