Photo by contributor Ian Arneson, a 29-year-old photographer and digital artist based in Sterling, Virginia. Ian suffers from severe depression and anxiety, and has for more than ten years now. Embracing the art of photography took him to a whole new place, a new state of mind. It became more than just a hobby or something to kill time. It became his outlet, his savior, something to keep living for. Telling stories through photographs fulfills a void within Ian that was lost long ago because of depression. His photos aren’t always autobiographical, but do represent places he’s seen and been, both good and bad, reality and in dreams.
About this photo: “It seems after any sort of loss in your life, whether big or small. Someone always has to throw in that “time heals all wounds” phrase at you. I got inspired to create this photo after a devastating break up with my then girlfriend. I suffered for a long time and the pain wasn’t ashamed to keep repeating itself day in and day out. After being told “time heals all wounds” enough, I finally decided to express how I felt about the breakup and the advice everyone was giving me, which was all the same.”
