Photo by contributor Nick Baber, a 41-year-old Chief Operating Officer from Surry, England. Nick was diagnosed with depression four years ago, but has been suffering for over twenty years.  Since coming out of the closet about his mental illness earlier this year, he has been humbled by the support and encouragement from family, friends, and work colleagues, and has recently returned to taking photos as a way to relax.

About this photo: “I took this photo whilst staying with my then girlfriend (now wife) near Salisbury, Wiltshire in October 2005 and it is a pretty good approximation of how I feel when I’m coming out of a period of depression and am ready to face the world again.  The sun is beginning to make its way into the sky and I can sense that it’s going to be a nice day to be alive.  For me it’s a feeling of renewal and that I can draw a line under the past.”
