Broken Light: A Photography Collective

We are photographers living with or affected by mental illness; supporting each other one photograph at a time. Join our community, submit today!

Please say hello to first-time contributor Nat, a 70-year-old man who has been interested in photography since he was a kid. He has suffered from chronic depression for many years. Usually the loss of a loved one, rejection, or anything that triggers feelings of low self-esteem can lead to a difficult time ahead. Lately, he is rediscovering the joy of the act of photography, and waiting for that moment which tells a special story to the casual observer.

About this photo: “This b&w street scene with kids was taken in the 1960s on the Lower East Side.

This is super Nat! I love the kids playing in the cardboard box. It reminds me of my kids 🙂 Also great to step back in time & imagine NYC in the 60’s. Super! Super! Super!

It’s good to sometimes show the hidden corners of our hearts. A little light is good for the soul. Thank you for sharing.
