Photo taken by a contributor from South Africa who was diagnosed several years ago at age forty with Aspergers and Major Depression. Last year, he left his job in the corporate sector to try and rebuild for his family after reaching a personal low that left him feeling useless and thinking often about suicide. Photography is a passion that he suppressed his entire life because of social interaction and self confidence issues associated with Aspergers. Three years ago, he picked up a camera again after 23 years and has been striving to find the courage to express himself since.
About this photo: “This series is called “Just Dance” and it’s dedicated to everyone out there who like me cannot dance, because of how we think and feel. These were taken at a public swimming pool in Durban. A DJ was playing for the beach, and suddenly the pool became the dance floor. It was a perfect moment. I still haven’t danced, and my challenge to everyone out there is to just once .. Dance .. Even if youre alone.”
