Who we are & why we are

Welcome to the gallery site of Broken Light Collective. We are artists of all levels and abilities who are affected by mental illness. We create and we share our work for the therapeutic benefits to us, as well as others who may be struggling and feeling scared and alone. Together we can move from disconnected to collective.

Photo taken by a contributor Danielle who has been diagnosed with clinical depression. She loves her family, but finds it hard to love herself.

About this photo: “Depression feels like there is a fence between me and the world. I want to break through, I just don’t know how.

Great pic- it really conveys the sense of separateness that you’re feeling & sharing with us. Please continue to so this- I believe it will help to break down that fence!

Great image, and it shows the feeling so well. Maybe photography will help you connect with the world, as Sam mentioned.

Sometimes fences have to be worked on from both sides.

You just go one day at a time and make sure that you are seeing a counselor and taking any prescribed medications. This is a GREAT photograph and depicts depression perfectly, but I can tell you from personal experience it does get better…you just have to be willing to do the work.

Perfect picture for the description of depression. I’ve felt that way for most of my life! Fortunately, lots of counseling and medication have helped me go through the fences along the way.
