Adventures in India

Photo taken by first-time contributor J, a teenager from Sanford, Florida. J has lived with OCD for the past two years. Sometimes she’s felt in control, while other times it has ruled her life. This past year, her OCD caused her to count letters in words to check if they added up to five, leaving her feeling illiterate. Since surviving a suicide attempt, she has begun to appreciate the adventure of being alive and capture that adventure through photography.

About this photo: “This photo was taken in India. I almost backed out of this photography trip due to fear of a relapse.  I decided to go, since I’ve dreamed of going to India since elementary school.  Mental illness makes you lose your dreams, it makes you think that they aren’t possible, that you aren’t good enough for them.  It’s wrong though.  Don’t listen.  I’m now working on another one of my dreams, a summer camp for kids with OCD.  ‘As to the future, I should have great hope’- Charles Dickens, A Tale of Two Cities”

  1. beautiful photo. And I’m glad you didn’t give up on your dream and went on the trip despite your illness. I am constantly battling agazinst the odds with mine too. Very encouraging and helps to keep you motivated towards moving towards that dream or seeing it more clearly and making it yours.
