He has been suffering from anxiety and depression for over 30 years, and has been sober for 4 years from an alcohol problem that lasted over 20 years. Photography has always been a wonderful outlet for him to capture and hold on to the brighter moments in his life.
About this photo: “This photograph is called “Under the Sea.” It looks like an anemone to me. It is nice to be able to be creative rather than destructive. In the past, instead of creating and submitting art I would be out getting high. Sitting on some bench in a park, alone, drinking to not feel. Sobriety to me is such a release. My mind can soar instead of be underwater like my photo shows.”

Luis, it is good to hear you voice and picture your struggle and release. I too am a recovering addict. I can very much relate to the feeling of feeling free in soberiety. Ten years for me, and art has been one of the catalyst for my recovery. Without it, it would have been very difficult. Peace brother and stay strong.

I think this is a great photo. Looks to me like a gasous planet’s surface in outer space. I’m glad you are sober and dealing with your anxiety and depression at work and in your photography.
