About this photo: The winding streets of Xela, Guatemala. I could spend hours weaving up and down these streets always finding something new and unusual to photograph. Xela is in the highlands of Guatemala and surrounded by volcanoes. I was fortunate to spend a week there studying Spanish and volunteering up in the hills at a school for impoverished children. Each afternoon, I would have to climb up for twenty minutes on dusty, unpaved roads to reach the school. The children’s smiles and gratitude made everything more than worth my effort. Smiles that would warm my heart forever and make me determined to give back to others.
