Photos taken by Chris Fitzgerald, a fashion and fine art photographer in Los Angeles who has struggled with depression and anxiety since childhood.
About this photo: While it is something I’ve come to learn how to deal with over the years, there are still times when it proves to be a formidable opponent. Last year, I made a series of images that tried to embody the seductive nature of depression and the way it can sometimes seem much easier to slip into the depths of the neurosis rather than fight. Here are a few from that series.

Excellent in many ways. Moving. Beautiful. I’m most impressed.
I find sometimes it’s necessary to surrender first and then start fighting it. . . sometimes not. . .

Thank you all for the positive feedback. This was a truly intense photo shoot, and while the idea was to capture something “ugly,” I think we created something extremely honest and beautiful. I appreciate you all taking a look.
