Paint by Depression

Photo taken by Rachel
Bio: I was officially diagnosed with clinical depression in Aug of 2011, but I’ve had episodes for at least 8 years. I’m 35, mom of 3, and married 15 years. I live in Southern Indiana and I babysit outside my home.
About the photo: This picture was painted by my sister when I was 13. I look at it when I’m having a “bad” day because this was painted when my sister was dealing with the same diagnosis of depression.

  1. Love the texture and complexity of the painted horse in this photo, but even more so the thumb holding it. We can feel you, Rachel. Your presence looming, just out of sight. Your depression and anxiety, as it has progressed from 13. Your connection to, or desire to connect with, your sister. We all just want to connect. Hopefully we can do that here.

Thank you for sharing this important piece to you, so others may connect as well.
