Weeping Bridge

Photo taken by contributor Morgan, a 21-year-old woman living in California. Morgan has suffered from bipolar depression and anxiety for many years. She experienced her first anxiety attack at the age of 10, and it has been a battle ever since. Her mental health improved greatly after the birth of her daughter, when she felt true unconditional love and acceptance from someone. Morgan thinks very passionately about photography. It’s so much more than just taking pictures to her, it’s a coping mechanism.

About this photo: Between the bridge’s opening in 1937 to 2014, there have been an estimated 1,600 suicides from the Golden Gate Bridge. I live near San Francisco so when my family comes to visit I always bring them for it is an undeniably beautiful city neatly perched by the bay. I can’t help but feel melancholy whenever I see this bridge while everyone else around me is always in awe by its beauty and strong structure.

When my family is in town for the first time they always want to take a boat ride that takes people under the bridge and back. And as we start to go under the bridge the tour guide says to “make a wish”. But that just seems to make my sadness more hard to swallow for I wish all those people were alive and happy.”
