The Swingset

Photo taken by first-time contributor Scott Kahley, a 31-year-old father of two boys living in a small town in the coal region of Pennsylvania. Scott has battled with Anxiety, Bipolar Disorder, and substance abuse for the past 15 years. He finds peace through photography and uses it to express himself and in hopes to help others find peace in his photos.

About this photo: “This swingset at my local park brings back so many memories. It was once painted bright and shined in the sunlight. It was here where I was pushed on a swing for the first time as a young child. It was where I sat with friends and laughed, and it was also here where I sat alone, intoxicated, and miserable with life. Like myself, it is now beaten up, cracked, and run down, but it still stands tall and it still stands strong, my kids still enjoy it and it brings a big smile to their faces… Just because your cracked and beaten don’t mean you can’t still make someone smile and lift their day. Never give up! You too are strong!”
