Photo taken by first-time contributor Olivia, a 52-year-old multi-media artist living in the Midwest of the United States. She is a survivor of child and young adult incest, and suffers with depression, anxiety and post-traumatic stress disorder. Olivia began photographing as a child. Recording life through her camera lens was a method she employed to interact with the world around her. Olivia is not as disconnected from the world today due to the love and encouragement from her husband (her #1 cheerleader), and her supportive and caring psychiatric team.
About this photo: “As I love words as much as I do images, my current series couples my photographs with quotes by writers and poets I admire. By using others’ words I don’t feel as exposed as I would using my own. This provides me with comfort and safe distancing as I try to negotiate a world that is still too accelerated for me. This photograph was taken in Brooklyn, New York and is titled Same Day Service.”
