Free Falling

Photo taken by contributor Jim, a man from Texas who has struggled with depression for much of his life.

About this photo: “This image is such a reflection of my state and my life. I recently retired and did not want to continue living where I was. I didn’t want to be where everyone saw me as who I had been. I wanted to become just a face (or two feet) in the crowd. I somehow thought that would help me find some pieces to complete the puzzle.

One must be careful what you wish for. I so hoped if I took the leap the net would appear. I wish I would have stayed pigeon toed safely away from the edge of the board. No net, just free falling…”

  1. Wishing for a safety net, hoping to be barely noticed … wanting to simply be two feet (vs a face in the crowd) is a great analogy that goes fantastic with your photo.

  2. “I wish I would have stayed…” It strikes me that the world is full of success stories, but to be honest, they are overrated because they are not the common story or the common outcome. This post speaks of honesty, of mistakes made and thus speaks so clearly as something I can relate to…it’s like a breath of fresh air, a clean breeze. Thank you! Oh, and kick ass photo too, by the way.
