Left Behind

Photo taken by contributor Kyle Anderson, a man from Saskatchewan, Canada. Kyle is a 41-year-old health care professional who has battled depression and addiction for most of his life. He escapes by letting the camera become his mind’s eye, and hopes that each photo he takes allows others to see the world as he sees it, even for a split second.

About this photo: “Left Behind… This child’s shoe left in the rubble of an abandoned farm house evokes a sense of ghostly sadness in me. Why was it left behind? Did they have to leave so quickly that the child couldn’t take a shoe? It is as if the child was just playing there and vanished. Like Hiroshima shadows on a concrete wall. This image could be from any of the world’s conflict zones instead of an old farm house in the trees. It was taken during a bleak time in my life, and evokes the thought of the ghosts of what we have left behind.”
