Jump Cross

Photo taken by contributor Mark Maya, a 30-year-old photographer from Durham, North Carolina, who was recently diagnosed with bipolar II.  Mark has used photography to treat and express himself for about four years now. He is currently doing a yearlong self-portrait project.

About this photo: “This self-portrait was born from a student of mine’s idea.  I have tried to live a “good” life that has led me through religion and ideas of “sacrifice” for the “greater good”.  As time passes the “greater good” becomes less and less good to me. This image communicates my deep confusion with today’s religious culture and how I have been numbed and teetered towards “indifference” in recent years.”
