War Flower

Please say hello to first-time contributor Bridget Walsh-Stone, a woman who was diagnosed with Bipolar I and Panic Disorder over 12 years ago. She sees a psychiatrist regularly and takes meds daily. Her prognosis has improved but it is a daily struggle. She has a B.A. in Visual Art from the University of Illinois in Springfield. Her primary focus was photography and printmaking. She also writes, paints and makes jewelry. Before becoming ill she was employed as a commercial photographer and had the opportunity to work with professional Nikon and Hasselblad cameras. Also she has much darkroom experience. Her illness has affected her personal life in many ways and at this time all of her images are made with a cellular phone camera and photoshop. Her work reflects her deep interest in her Celtic origins, love of nature and what it has to teach us, spirituality, self exploration and self expression.

About this photo: “The Thistle is entirely edible but it is also entire covered in thorns…this is no rose.  It is saying I am fighting to the end … for my life….. I have every right to be here.  I LOVE the TENACITY the Thistle teaches.”
