Ghosted

Please welcome first-time contributor Lucy EC, an 18-year-old from Hertfordshire, UK who has been diagnosed with and suffers from Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD), depression and anxiety. She was diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder when she was 16 and officially diagnosed again a couple of months after turning 18. She enjoys expressing herself through her photography and art. She dreams to pursue a career in photography but continues to struggle with looking after herself and focusing on her wellbeing.

About this photo: “‘Ghosted’ was taken on holiday with my ex-boyfriend in Anglesey, Wales. Walking along the beach in the evening. I’ve always found it difficult to express myself through the photos I take. As an aspiring artist/photographer I want people to understand what I’m trying to portray. Having the BPD label slapped onto me when I was so young has helped me learn about myself and find others like me. I’ve never been able to hold onto any sort of ‘good’ relationship I have with people but, my ex-boyfriend in this moment, understood what I wanted to achieve and that’s all I’ve ever wanted from anyone. Struggling with BPD is deeply distressing but I hope this image helps people pull some sort of light out of a horrible condition (no pun intended).

  1. This is a beautiful photo and it portrays perfectly the ups, downs, fogginess, craziness, etc. of mental illness. I have suffered with anxiety, depression, and addiction and I can definitely relate to this photo. Thanks for sharing!
