Photo taken by contributor Fleur Alston, a 42-year-old mother attempting to document her family through photography. One of her children suffers from anxiety and panic attacks. It makes her feel helpless as a parent to see her daughter suffer from very low self-esteem brought on by a severe bout of bullying she encountered when she was younger. Fleur wants to help her children see how beautiful they are through her photography.
About this photo: “Here are a few images, they are all from my ongoing project to document my children exploring different locations and environments. Each image is inspired by the Seasons and the natural colours of the landscape. I wanted in some way to envelop my children in their environments and to ground them in the natural world around them. What started as a way of showing Kate how beautiful she was has grown in to something much more encompassing and long term. A narrative has developed between the images, and each photograph informs the others as they are beginning to make a picture as a whole.”

Fleur, I love how you used negative space in the first image. It is my favorite from the pictures you shared. It is truly wonderful how you are able to show your children a glimpse of how beautiful they are through your eyes. A belated Mother’s Day to you.
