At the Pumpkin Patch

Photo taken in Pennsylvania by a contributor Danielle who has Major Depressive Disorder. She has had a difficult few years that has caused her to shut most everyone out of her life. She does maintain a select few family and friends who have supported her through the darkest of times.

About this photo: “This week my best friend who lives in Paris and her daughter came to stay with my family. Seeing our two pumpkins instantly connect and work together was so beautiful it was beyond words. The girls were holding hands by the time they left the airport and declaring their love for each other by the end of the day in their respective languages. I took this photo at a pumpkin patch several days ago. The girls were in their own carefree world. I miss being in that world — depression makes me feel burdened and isolated so much of the time — but seeing my dear friend and our daughters reminded me of how powerful and fun friendship and imagination can be.”

  1. It’s so interesting how we observe happy people from a distance. Such an odd feeling, a bad feeling, yet we know what ‘happy’ looks like when we see it, almost like a flavor we can no longer taste or a color we can’t quite remember. Yet these two carefree pink girls look very happy indeed, so it’s nice to see.

  2. wonderful photo and I miss that carefree feeling too. I also suffer with major depression and general anxiety disorders, plus a host of physical things related to low everything in my blood (low B12, low red, low iron etc)
