Photo taken by contributor Kait Mauro, a 22-year-old Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania native who has lived all over the country. She is trying to see all 50 states and has been to 38 so far. Kait has a diagnosis of major depression, severe and recurrent, as well as having experienced anxiety and disordered eating during her teenage years. She is currently an undergraduate at Washington University in Saint Louis where she studies Women, Gender & Sexuality Studies and Creative Writing. Her primary mediums are poetry and photography, though she has also been known to dabble in printmaking and other genres of writing. She seeks to understand her experiences and to connect with others through her art.
About this photo: “I made this collage during a very confused time in my life. I felt like everything I touched shattered in one way or another, slowly or suddenly. I used a photograph I had already taken and printed in black and white then painted abstractly over it with white and red paint. I then smashed up some wine glasses and arranged the shards on the collage, loosely. I photographed the whole thing again, made the red paint grey-toned in Photoshop, and that is how this photograph came into being.“

The collage looks extremely shattered. Great expression in the collage.

Shows so much how I feel at the Moment. Like my world could get shattered in pieces in every next Moment.
