Photo taken by contributor Teija, a 35-year-old woman from Finland. She suffered from a severe depressive episode at the age of 25, which turned into psychosis, and led to a three month hospitalization. Fortunately, she got better quite quickly and got her life back together. She found love after getting out of hospital. Her life changed drastically when her partner was paralyzed last Christmas Eve morning. It has been hard ever since. They are both fighting to keep from getting too depressed. Life goes on and they try to stay strong. She has been interested in photography for many years, but began actively exploring it over the last four years. Before her partner’s accident, she had made up her mind and quit her day job to pursue being a photographer. Now she is drifting, taking care of her man, and hoping that the day will come that she can start doing photography professionally.
About this photo: “This picture means to me that journey we all feel like we are taking sometimes. Life seems filled with troubles and you feel like you could just escape from everything, and after a while you notice that you just want to go back, that escaping is not the answer. Or the journey can be that struggle inside your soul and mind. And after you get your feelings straight, mind is calm, you feel like you have taken the Long road home..”

Absolutely beautiful photograph! I know what it is like to love someone who is paralyzed. I was a caregiver to a dear friend, who became a quadriplegic after a card accident, for a year.I know what daily life is like, for you and your loved one. It’s a difficult, challenging, and often heartbreaking situation that cannot be truly understood unless you have experienced it yourself. I wish you love and strength, and please take more pictures. It only takes one photo to see your gift! Peace of Mind & Love to You! Nana

Nina, thank you for telling your story, it gives me so much strength to keep going ❤ It is sometimes really hard to even tell and try to explain what all you go through in situation like this. But one day at the time, we try to keep going and hoping for brighter future ❤
