Capturing Light, Thailand

Photo taken by contributor n23art who has struggled with depression for much of his life. Most of the time it’s manageable, but there have been a few times when it has hit him very hard. He is originally from the UK, but currently lives in Thailand.

About this photo: “Chiang Mai, Thailand. August 2012. I’d love to say that this image was an example of my mastery of capturing light………………..but it’s not true. Here’s the mundane truth. I was having coffee with my friend Linda, she’s also a photographer (and probably a better one than I am) I had just bought a new Speedlite, so I decided to test it out and as a fellow photographer Linda was happy to sit there while I tried the Speedlite in different positions and snapped away.

I didn’t think any more of it until a few days later when I took a look at the images and I was shocked when I saw this one because I think it captured the nature of the subject.

I remember hearing someone say that “people are radiators or drainers” meaning that they either radiate or drain energy to or from those around them. Unfortunately sometimes I can be a drainer and when I spend  with other drainers it’s not good. Thankfully Linda radiates and here’s the proof.  She recently left Thailand and returned to her native Denmark, so maybe Thailand is a little bit duller but Denmark is a lot brighter and now I need to find another photo nerd to hang out with.”
