Conducting the Waves

Photo taken by contributor  Tiger Lillies, a woman in her forties from Ontario who suffers from deep depression, psychosis, and agoraphobia, possibly bipolar disorder, all while raising her five and six-year-old grandchildren. Thankfully she has a supportive partner Rick who helps make daily life with children possible. Her grandchildren, as well as her recent love of photography, have become her saviors and kept her from succumbing to the negative temptations that regularly haunt her. She has tried to commit suicide several times in the past, but thankfully is still with us. Her hopes are to get past her illness, as well as glaucoma, and become a professional photographer.

About this photo: “As some of you with a disorder of any kind know, raising a family can be difficult for everyone. My greatest fear is that my illness will effect the babies somehow and they will grow up unhappy about their childhood.  Because of this fear Rick and I very seldom go on outings without the little ones.  I want them to experience life and learn from it.   I also want them to dream…dream big. Be whomever you want to be. Go wherever you want to go. Do whatever you want to do.  Both children have wonderful gifts in music and art, and like most 5 and 6 year olds, amazing imaginations.  I pray they never lose them.

Rick and I were sitting at a picnic table, both in our own worlds, enjoying the day.  I turned to check on the children, and this is when I saw my little girl.  My heart filled with joy! How amazing is she to believe that she can conduct the waves!!   She knows about God, and how He created us and the world, but for a few minutes she was conducting the waves.   She was dreaming big!  God Bless her.
