Peace and Simplicity

Photo taken by first-time contributor Marci, a 30-year-old woman from Northern California. She has struggled with mental health issues since she was a child. As she got older the severity increased, symptoms changed along with diagnosis. As a young adult she started experiencing mood swings, psychosis, self-harm, and other personality issues. She was then diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder and eventually Schizoaffective Disorder- bipolar type, because of the combination of symptoms of schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. Marci has found joy and distraction in scrapbooking and journaling. She looks through those scrapbooks and journals when she is having a rough time in the hopes that it will transport her to a happier time and place.

About this photo: “This photo was taken in South Lake Tahoe outside at my little sister’s house in January.  This photo reminds me of peace and simplicity.  I didn’t need to go far, I didn’t take multiple shots and choose the best one, and I didn’t use a fancy camera. I just took the one picture with my iPhone and I love it.  The sky is bright and clear with the snow on the trees and it makes me feel peaceful looking at it.”
