Photo taken by contributor Danielle who suffers from major depressive disorder, anxiety, and panic disorder. Her family and photography are her inspirations and true loves. They keep her going on the darkest days.
About this photo: “I have been staying inside a lot because of my depression, but the nice weather and an unavoidable errand forced me out. The first thing I saw when I walked out the door was several gorgeous roses that my neighbor had grown, maybe five feet from my side door. I decided that this was a perfect opportunity to try out macro photography. My hands are a little shaky, perhaps from my medications, so I found it to be surprisingly difficult, but I kept moving my body and the camera and soon I started getting some really interesting shots. It felt different from my normal photography experience. It actually felt like a dance. The way I moved myself, my hands, and my camera in and around the flowers to find just the right focus and composition. Something about it felt surprisingly intimate. I was pleased with the way the photos came out. And now I have a visual reminder that beauty can be found literally right outside my door!”
