Photo taken by contributor Thirdeyemom, who experienced severe postpartum depression after the birth of her first child. It was a terrifying, isolating experience for her, which included terrible insomnia and hallucinations. Thankfully with the help of doctors and family, one week after her son’s first birthday she was able to board a plane to South Africa, resuming her love of travel. Through traveling, writing, and photography she began to see the beauty of the world again.
About this photo: “It was our first big snowfall of the year in early December. Overjoyed by the beauty of the thick white snow, I put on my snowshoes and went down to my favorite urban lake, Lake Harriet. Every day and every season, I find so much beauty and peace in this lake. I love photographing it as the seasons change.“

Funny that she titles this Frozen, as I too suffered with Post natal depression, but not too severely. I remember describing my face as feeling like it was “frozen” during this period of my life. Fantastic photo.
