Pure Beauty in Vanoise

Photo taken by Thirdeyemom, who experienced severe postpartum depression after the birth of her first child. It was a terrifying, isolating experience for her, which included terrible insomnia and hallucinations. Thankfully with the help of doctors and family, one week after her son’s first birthday she was able to board a plane to South Africa, resuming her love of travel. Through traveling, writing, and photography she began to see the beauty of the world again.

About this photo: “This photo is my favorite out of all 800 I took during a week trek in Vanoise National Park, France. I was the first one in our group, hiking ahead, taking it all in. The air, the mountains, the sun and life. I felt so invigorated and alive that I wanted to run. To run up this path and scream in joy. Pure beauty is something that cannot be taken for granted and must be embraced. That is how I feel when I’m in the mountains hiking. I feel free and alive.”
