Photo taken by a woman who suffers from mental illness. Her diagnoses include terrible depression and anxiety. She also suffers from fear and panic attacks. She loves to travel but has not been able to take a big trip in many years.
About this photo: “This is one of my favorite photos I have ever taken. I just found the print of it as I was going through the mess in my house that had built up due to my depression. I had taken this photograph probably about 12 years ago on a trip to France. I took it with my non-digital SLR loaded with black and white tri-x film. I remember being surprised by the beauty of this building, and amazed by how it looked so gorgeous but was in truth falling apart. This was right around the time that I was diagnosed with having a mental illness, so I didn’t understand it’s depths or the extreme struggles that would follow, but I already felt a connection to the contradiction of looking one way and feeling another. It was an emotional and powerful moment for me.“

Great shot and great memories of tri-x film and developing it…

Very striking. It was a nice surprise to discover that the upper left corner didn’t result from tearing the print but was an integral part of the photo.
