About this photo: “I call this photograph “Loneliness.” It was taken in Skagway, Alaska from a train. Though it is a color photograph, the tones are almost all gray. The trees in the foreground make me think of people looking out on the foggy grayness all around. I remember sitting in the train car at the time, looking out the window and just feeling a sense of heaviness as I looked out the window. It was all so gray. I have been fighting an ongoing battle with major depressive disorder. When I am not feeling well, this is always the photo that draws me back. If I don’t have words to say how I am feeling, this photo says it. As a matter of fact, my closest friends know that when I am feeling my worst, this photo becomes my profile photo on Facebook because this photo says more to me than any words can.”

Sarah, I am so sorry that you have to go through this. I too suffer, and some days are much, much worse than others. Coupled with chronic degenerative pain, some days I don’t know if I’ll ever get back. I too have a photo that brings me back. It is on film and is taped to the inside of my Bible; I wish I could find the negative so I could reprint it and post it here.
